| ‘Emerge’ 24″ x 36″ x 1″ plaster and oils on canvas This is the quote that inspired the work: “Man is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed.” ~Blaise Pascal Here we are again, looking at new art together and pondering the meaning of life. I’ve grown to enjoy this part of art making the best. The Sharing. The very best part of being an artist is being exposed. Naked. Out in the front where every one can see me, clearly. Yeah man, that’s good stuff. Not just for the being seen part (which is nice, yes indeed) but for the thrill of not knowing and doing it anyway. Will they (the viewing public) like it? Hate it? Don’t give a shit about it? Who cares…coz I did this for Me! Whoot-Whoot…er, eh, back to the regularly scheduled program…sorry about that. :) I like this new work, it’s simple yet complicated. The heavy texture of the layer of plaster under the paint makes the whole work come to life as you move about the room. The glazes of blues and greens feel alive and wet. The silver paint I used for the emerging form from the murk, catches light and transmutes it, it too has the feeling of moving water. I’ve hung this work over my desk so that I can continue to learn what it is showing me about my brain, growth, understanding. I like that. Love for all, Heather |
